Last time I checked, there was no freeware driver for Windows that will put
the Atheros chipsets in promiscuous mode. Anything that runs over the
WinPcap lib - Ethereal, for example - will not work with wifi cards that use
Atheros.
There is a freeware Linux driver for Atheros (madwifi project), but it uses
a proprietary binary hardware-adaptation layer written by a programmer under
contract to Atheros. This layer has not been ported to Windows, so the
madwifi driver - as far as I know at this time - has not been ported to
Windows.
The only Windows drivers I know of that will support Atheros promiscuous
mode are proprietary drivers from companies that signed Atheros NDAs and
market their drivers in expensive commercial software analyzer or scanner
packages.
