Parallel connection with XP trouble

I have been trying to connect my laptop as host, running
98, with my desktop computer as guest, running XP, through
a parallel cable, but I am having trouble. Each time I
get to the User name and password on my desktop, it won't
let me in. I have tried using the XP user name and
password, the password that is set when you enable sharing
to your hard drive, and the password that is set when you
run the Direct Cable Connection through 98. I am just
using the software that came with both versions of
windows. Anyone have any ideas?
