We are getting thousands of "Packets Received Unknown" in our perfmon
counters. Can anyone give me an idea on how to determine where they are
comming from or what causes this error.

Use Network Monitor (included in the OS), or install another packet sniffer
like Ethereal.

It's likely a virus, or some bad routing.

Rick,

Is there a reason why you are looking at Perfmon in this area? I'm just
wondering what the root problem was that led you down this path. Are you
having any particular network related problems with this server that made you
enable Perfmon monitoring on the NIC?

We have all sorts of problems that I am trying to troubleshoot. The thing
that started making us monitor this was our replication had failed due to
timeouts so when checked the network we found a delay in pings to the server.
We then started monitoring these counters.
