Packet sniffer/network diagnostic

I am looking for a good packet sniffer/network diagnostic solution.

The company I am working for currently has some networking issues.

We have swapped out all the switches in the segment with the problem and
have tried ethereal, but it just does not give enough information.

It only shows braodcast information and information directed to or from the
pc with ethereal on.

We need a "proper" promiscuous sniffer that logs ALL packets on the network.

I have downloaded and tested a few demo programs, but so far nothing stands
out.

Any experiences (positive or negative) would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

You need to configure your switches properly. It's not the applications.

Not all of the switches are smart/configurable
For the ones that are configurable, what do you mean? (just a hint?)

Thanks

Each vendor of course has their own terms, but look for something like span
(not spanning-tree) or promiscuous. The non-managed switches will kill what
your looking for. Try and work around them.

You wouldn't happen to know what NETGEAR call theirs, I only see
spanning-tree?

Thanks

A quick search on their forum and it looks like they call it Port Mirroring.
