Hi,

How do I know the package which is required to be installed to run a
specific command?
For example, the command ifconfig etc...

Can I find any documentation listing commands under packages?

Thanks..

With 300+ distribution of linux we have to give general answers to
general questions with no information.

You use your distributions package manager commands.
The things which comes to mind.

man (your package manager program name here)

man -k package
apropos package

locate (your package manager program name here)
anything returned with /doc is a good canidate for cut/paste into your browser.

for extra points
man man
man apropos
man locate

We all start learning somewhere, no need to be sorry.

We can tell from the questions. If you were to read

for this reply, you could have replied with something like

Sorry, running Mandriva Linux 2006.0 or fc5, or ubuntu 5.10 or,,,,

Since you are posting through Google, here is a post you might want to
