If I leave a router on overnight with computers switched off, is there still
traffic passing to the router? Would that be included in an account GB
allocation? Not that it would be much, just curious.

Network traffic, wont be included in your monthly allowance. Call to confirm
however, incase they're 1)plusnet, 2) stingy, 3) both of the aforementioned
items

Add 4 to that - BTYapoo say that ALL network traffic is counted.

Pray tell, what is "Network traffic" in regard to your belief that it's
not counted towards total allowances ?

All traffic to and from the subscribers IP address whilst that IP
address is currently assigned to that subscriber (in the case of DHCP)
would be (is!?) counted. This includes any ping attempts, rougue
packets or anything else.
