I have a stand-alone Win98SE with dialup and DCC installed.

I want to print from a legacy DOS program in a DOS window to a HP
laserjet1012 on USB.

On the Win98 gen_discussion forum, one person said that he had done
this by mapping the parallel ports to a locally shared USB printer.

My attempt failed.

He said that to do this with a printer named "usbprinter" on a machine
called "localhost" he did this:

1. Share the local printer.
2. Type "NET USE LPT1 \\localhost\usbprinter" from a command
prompt.

My USB printer's Share name HP1012
I enter at the C:> prompt: NET USE LPT1 \\localhost\HP1012

This produces the message:

"Error 3787: You must log on before performing this operation."

Any suggestions?

As the message says: Log off (Start / Log off), then
log on under some user name. If you don't have an
existing account, just type in "Stan", and remember
the password you use.

I Logged of and logged on as you suggested. NET USE still doesn't
work.

My desktop PC does not have a network card. Could that be why this
approach to work?
