I am having trouble setting up an outlook account. I am
connected through dsl and my e-mail is through
backpacker.com. I cannot send or recieve emails through
outlook. I have set up an account, but does it matter that
the email i use is different than the one provided with my
isp?

It may be. You need to contact backpacker.com to see if they allow this and,
if so, what settings to configure to allow it.
