I have a new install of Windows 2003 Server SP1. I am unable to telnet to
port 25 on our mail server.

There is nothing between these 2 machines except a switch. Using network
monitor I see NO packets generated during this test.

We have an app (Blackboard) that runs on this server and is trying to send
outbound mail. Anyone seen this?

Blake

I'm assuming that running "netstat -an" on the server
shows port 25/tcp in listening state on the address
you're using as your telnet target (or on 0.0.0.0); now
if that's true there must be something blocking port 25
did you check if the w2k3 firewall is enabled or if there's
a portfiltering or IPSec port blocking policy active ?

Regards

I can connect from other clients/servers to port 25 on the SMTP server.

There is clearly something on the source machine that is not allowing the
SMTP connection - not the Windows firewall because that is not enabled (and
doesn't block outbound connection as I understand it)
