I'm sure a Wireless Access Point (such as the Linksys WAP54G) has a
theoretical or practical limit to how many simultaneous connections it can
support, but I can not find that in the documentation or specifications of
any Wireless G AP I research.

Anyone? How many wireless "ports" do these access points usually provide?

Thanks,
Bryan

Per the User Guide for WAP54G:

What is the maximum number of users the Access Point facilitates?

No more than 65, but this depends on the volume of data and may be less if
many users create a large amount of network traffic.

The Linksys often dies off with 50 or so users and average bandwidth,
I think the limit is 64. It's in the tech specs or docs somewhere.
