OT : streaming webcam video

I have a 2mb ADSL Nildram account, and I would like to utilise a web cam
I have to 'stream' to a web page.

I have Googled, but am not entirely sure if 'streaming' is the correct
terminology to use, so i am getting a lot of sites that display web cam
pictures, but not how to set such like up!

Basically, i want to set up a web cam so I can view my house and
surrounding land on a web page, in as real-time as possible.

Appreciative of but disregarding bandwidth at this stage, can anyone
point me to some useful content on the web to help me a) decide which
cam is best, and b) how to put the whole thing together to achieve what
I want?

TIA

You'll probably find that there'll be no "streaming" to any website, just
a web page which has the necessary code to cause streaming from your home
(fixed IP) to be started. There will be plenty of examples around, but a
quick look at <http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/cams/PN_IH_CSCWebcams.htm> will
show you the code inserted to get the browser to display images from Axis
webcam (popular, but not cheap)

Some webcams display a menu if called up on particular port numbers, so a
size for the image can be chosen from a menu, for example. I've not used
one here (just watched various free cams from around the world). I guess
the choice comes down to your budget... 100 to 300 and perhaps 750 up may
be the types of price bracket for them, based on a few I've seen. One of
my friends didn't 'stream' but used a few (3 or 4) webcams at home, which
updated about once every 2 minutes. It allowed him to see the images via
his mobile phone. One was on his plasma screen, another looked along the
front drive and a third was in another room, so he could tell if anything
had been disturbed, without having fully streaming output. Peter M.
