I've been using Agent now for almost 8 years. Not free, but there is a free
version.

I'm moving over more and more to my MacBook now, though, and I've been using
Thunderbird on that. Once it's configured right, it's much like Agent to use.

Definitely Agent (or FreeAgent for the free version). Might be worth trying FreeAgent
first and if you like the feel of it go for the full product.

Here's a link for site:

I've been using Agent for years and I'm very happy with it.

As others say, Agent is technically superb if showing its age a bit.

XanaNews is also very good, I move to it from Agent, see:

I've tried a few over the years, and have personally had the best luck with a
reader called Xnews (http://xnews.newsguy.com)

Handles both text & binary newsgroup well, clean interface, and best of all it's
free
