Let's see...

KNode
MT Newswatcher
Thunderbird

They're all free to use. The first is a Linux app and the second is for Mac.
The third is cross-platform.

What do you want to download, text or binaries?

If text, Free Agent is the best (IMNSHO).
If binaries, Free Agent is OK but Grabit is better.

Personally I use fully paid up Agent for text and Newsbin Pro for
binaries.

pan is free as in speech and beer.

i think there's a windows version, the linux one is really usefull but you
would probably need to run the CVS version with very large binary groups.

I use Virtual Access, which used to be paid-for but is now
maintained by its users. Has the advantage of threading both
email and newsgroup messages (I started using it because it can
also cope with CompuServe).
