Would someone mind checking this out please, in case it's some quirk
of my setup.

At the page http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/install I read:
"Click the install button and follow the on screen prompts", but there
is no such button.

It is displayed when I switch to IE.

later I found that I already had aversion of iPlayer installed but
once again when I tried to view a programme there was no Play button
displayed.

Does iPlayer not work with Firefox?

I can't see why you would install it. It's just embeded flash (unless you
are trying to get the download version????). The vanilla iPlayer web page
works fine with Firefox & Opera on Linux. I can't see why it would not
work with windross. It is only accessible in the UK afair? You are in the
UK and not using some proxy or anything horrible?

By 'Flash for Firefox' do you mean the plug-in 'Adobe Flash Player'
that is accessible from the add-ons site under Plugins? If so, I have
installed that but still no joy.

What is that "BBC iPlayer plugin" please? I see no such offering
amongst the 7 plugins listed on the FF add-ons site under Plugins.

BBC do their own standalone flash based player with a wrapper, that can
cope with downloaded media, and exploire and delete them when past their
sell by date.

Its a huge thing but it works.

Useful if you have a slow bandwidth link and want to watch the same
outpourings several times.

I should have done it earlier, but a reboot of my PC (a rare event
here) appears to have fixed whatever was the problem thanks.

Do you have Flashblock, NoScript, Adblock, etc, installed?

Yes to all those three. None seem relevant here though.

I f**king despair of idiots like this. It's a bloody flash application
and the dickhead can't see the relevance of FlashBlock. God help us.

I've got a flashblock in me loo and that won't run IPlayer either.
Oh, sorry, flash - getting confuddled.
