I am running Windows Vista and have a Hauppauge TV card in my PC.

I was looking for ways to stream live TV around my network . I have looked
at a SlingBox

http://uk.slingmedia.com/page/home

and then I came across this.

http://www.orb.com/

Has anyone tried it. If I stream out to the outside world is an ADSL
connection fast enough?
A SlingBox costs £140 - the Orb software is free. Too good to be true?

I haven't tried Orb but I have used the similar TVersity, which is
brilliant.

I have Orb and use it in conjunction with my N73 on a Three unlimited
data contract. It's amazing, streaming audio and video in real time off
the PC is fantastic. My ADSL connection is fine for streaming as long as
it can use all the bandwidth, it struggles if there is other activity on
the connection.

I also have the Slingbox, again a superb bit of kit. Try Orb first, it's
free, if it's not what you want get a Slingbox. That will adjust
compression rates etc on the fly to give you the best image possible for
the available bandwidth. I've never had any problems with either.

I agree with what James says but would add :

The Slingbox seems a little more resilient to bandwidth fluctuations.

However, you are also tied into using the Slingbox software and only the
clients they release it on, Orb (and TVersity) stream to multiple
different platforms (Xbox 360/Wii/PS3/Phones/Pocket PC's etc).

I was one of the UK beta testers for the Slingbox (so I got it for free)
and if it broke I wouldn't rush to replace it.

What clients do you intend using?

Personally (depending on the room I am in)I stream TV using the 360
(from XPMC), Xbox Media Centre Extender for the original XBox (from MCE)
which works fine except the resolution is a little low (NTSC), Orb (for
watching TV on my mobile in bed) or the SlingBox (for my daughter to
watch/use Tivo & Sky on herb laptop). For programs recorded with MCE I
have an auto-MPEG2 converter running which moves them onto a share
available to XBMC (this is on the fly during recording) so if there is
something I want to watch in the best quality this is the option I choose.

When away from home I tend to connect via the Slingbox rather than Orb
(unless I am watching an archived film/show) as it handles wireless
bandwidth fluctuation much better.
