OT (almost) : Tiscali broadband referral scheme ..... pucker?

I've just had a phone call out of the blue inviting me to join the
tiscali referral scheme for broadband.

Seems if i pay 4.99 as a one off, and then refer 3 people, i get a
payment of £100.

I took a look, and it all seems pucker, but has anyone else any
experience of it?

It's network marketing clearly, but i was cautious of it all when
filling in the online application form i had to give all my bank *and*
credit card details (at which point i withdrew from going further)

Details can be found here http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/nm/

FWIW, please don't think this is SPAM for the above service, i am not a
reseller, referrer or currently associated with it. I am merely
interested in finding out if anyone else has taken it up, been bitten,
or is finding it successful. Or is it a load of cack?

TIA

<snip tiscali crap>

As a Broadband Campaigner, i get millions of these from all over.

Delete it, its crap.

If theyre phoning you, register yourself with the TPS (telephone preference
service), then it becomes nice and illegal for them to seel you things over
the phone ;-)

Unfortunatly, tiscali are an ISP so you cant get them for spamming.

Just wait for the email from Aphillion (Satellite), 15Mb of videos embeded
into an email is never good, especially on 56k

You have to pay them to refer people to them? What's wrong with a free
affiliate scheme?

AFAIK, Its not illegal if you're already a customer of theirs I believe.
The TPS is to do with cold calling from people you do not already have a
business relationship with. Being a customer means you already have a
relationship.

Oh right, so it's more of a pyramid scheme then. Shouldn't it be illegal?

It is nothing like a pyramid scheme, but whatever it is like, it is not
something i'm going to get involved with given the feedback thus far.

Ah but you and the mugs you have to sign up also have to sign users up to
Tiscali, but for that you get the normal affilite rate I believe.
Personaly advising people on which ISP to go with is too much trouble, If
like the Tiscali one you just offer one ISP, people goe elsewhere to
compare. I give callers a selection of ISP's and let them make up their mind
As all have pros and cons.

Ian
