I recently purchased an Orinoco Gold PC card (part # 848441556) and it came
without any plastic storage case. Amy PC card I have ever purchased came
with a protective plastic storage case. Did I possibly get a product that
was (incompletely) returned to the reseller by another buyer, or is this the
way they are packaged now?

I purchased a gold card about 6 weeks ago and it came in the plastic case
and a installation CD.

I have noticed this with the Orinoco cards that have come through me lately.
I think Proxim decided to drop the little plastic case. It's too bad, it was
such a good idea.

I used to take my card out all the time, because I was worrited that it
might get broken. A friend has a DLink that has a distinct tilt to the
antenna area, folded up a few degrees.
Now I don't take mine out at all.
Wanna buy the little case? All it's used for is to hold the little antenna
cover button. ;-)

Hmm... I specifically wanted to get a card that was manufactured (or at
least designed) prior to Proxim getting their hands on Orinoco. Their
revised design claims a "lower profile" antenna, which I read as "different
and probably not as good as the original". It never occurred to me that
they would skimp on packaging. I always remove my wireless cards before
putting the laptop away, but rarely do so with others because they don't
protrude. It probably cost them more to revise the cardboard insert that
holds the card in place (without the plastic) than they saved by dropping
the plastic.

Thanks for all the answers... at least know I won't waste my time, effort,
and shipping to return it, only to get the same problem back again.
