I have a very odd thing going on. I ordered a new Orinoco Gold Classic
PC Card because my old one was getting fritzy.I flashed the firmware,
but did not reinstall the client manager.

After an hour, two or three, my laptop abruptly grinds to a near halt,
getting so slow that even moving the mouse may not respond on-screen
for a full second or even two. If I pop out the card, everything
suddenly frees up. Task manager (win 2000) doesn't show anything
unusual. This NEVER happened before the new card. What's going on?????

Yes, it gobbles up memory.
You don't need to run the Orinoco manager once you set it up, perhaps only
to check the signal strength occasionally.
Regards,
Martin

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8200 laptop with builtin Wifi (802.11b) and have
found it impossible to connect to my wireless network at home at 128 bit.
When I set encryption down to 64bit or none at all, it connects no problem.

There are no symptoms or error messages and occurs when connecting to a P2P
or AP.

Any ideas?

See if you can find a better driver for your 802.11b card. Try
www.toshbia.com .
