ORiNOCO 'Classic' Silver

I'm looking for an ORiNOCO 'Classic' Silver card. After looking into which
card to get, I think I can gather that the Classic card uses a different
chipset to the newer Proxim card, which had better sensitivity.

So, I have a couple of questions if this is correct. Are they still
available new, or do I need to look for them used on eBay and the like? I'm
having trouble even finding the new Silver card on sale here in the UK!

Many thanks in advance.

For some reason, the Orinoco cards aren't sold in retail shops that I'm
aware of. The Classic Silver and Classic Gold were the same chipset.
I have the Classic Silver. Two, in fact.

The Classic Gold was sold by Dell, maybe they still have them.

The UK distributor Acal - Network still had some in stock at the end of
October,
but they are more expensive then the current version.
The part code is :
848441481 = Orinoco World Silver Card (11 Channels) - 1 card left.

848441499 = Orinoco ETSI Silver Card (13 Channels) - 8 cards & 3 20-packs
left.

You can order them via Scitec
email dj at scitecgroup.com

Martin

Funny you should say this actually. Wireless4U (part of Scitec) said they
were getting just the one in tomorrow morning, and they are reserving it for
me. I was reluctant because they wanted to charge £8.50 for delivery. Should
I just go for it?

Sebby,
I did not believe the old Orinoco's were (significantly) better and wouldn't
pay the price. I only wanted it because it has an antenna connector, but the
Orinoco antennas are too expensive too.

In the end I got Orinoco USB adapter which is easy to position for best
signal, it needs to be 5' high by the window to get signal from a window in
another building 75m away, works great.
Regards,
Martin

I can't compare the old to the new, since I only have the old.
I have two antennas that I connect at various times.
One is a "standard" N-Connector, so I have an Orinoco-N cable.

The other is a magnetic mount antenna with the Orinoco connector
attached.

I don't think either of them was priced higher just because of
the Orinoco MC-card connector.

The UK price was about £64, that's over $115 at the moment !
I thing there were made by Agere using Lucent chip.
