Our Orinoco BG-2000 appears to hang after a few minutes of using
the browser to control it. No particular one function -- it just
starts responding oddly (e.g., no images), or just stops responding.
Physically checking the unit, it feels likely to me that the unit
is overheating after just a short time. I have checked, and we do
appear to be using the proper power block for it.
I suspect I'm seeing the problem during browsing mostly because I still
haven't gotten it configured to the point of being useful in the config
I want. (I'm close, finally, but the LAN and WAN addresses are reversed...)
My suspicion is that once configured, it would hang just as often
due to the heat.
I seem to recall that I had been testing the unit around May or so
last year, and that it had worked for awhile at that point, but had
become increasingly flakey until I yanked it out; I'm only now
getting back to it.
Have other people seen similar BG-2000 heat problems?
It is, by the way, not at all easy to find anything more than the
glossy brochure for this unit. OrinOco was an agere brand, but
they sold the brand to proxim and agere did a very poor job of cleaning
out all the useful information without adding any glue pointing to
proxim. Proxim in turn has a Knowledgebase item for the BG-2000, but
the links are dead. I had to do a bunch of digging around just to
find the default username and password... couldn't find the
reference guide. The orinocowireless.com site has pretty much
disappeared. And, by the way, if you are looking for information
on other OrinOco equipment -- some of it does exist still at proxim,
but even the parts number changed, so you may have some difficulty
finding it.
