Hi Folks.

I need a little help configureing my new Proxim ORiNOCO AP-600 b/g access
point for WPA with preshared keys. I've enabled it in the setup, but I
cannot connect from my laptop using an Orinoco Gold PCcard (802.11b/g) . I
type in the passphrase, but it doesn't seem to work. WEP works fine BTW -
can connect with no problem using wep.

Also I need a little help understanding the VLAN settings ( a lot of it is
the terminology- like "untagged" - I'm NOT a newbie at setting up wireless
LANS, just at doing it with slightly higher end units like the AP-600, which
supports such things as VLAN's - won't find that kind of stuff in my D-Link
consumer grade broadband router setup;-).

The users manual is a little vague and honestly confusing on setting it up
properly, I even had to READ a users manual (!), then actually call tech
support to figure out HOW to upgrade the firmware for the AP! There were NO
directions given - Proxim needs to do a LOT of work in the UNderstandable
user guides department).

Thanks

Aaron

Have you tried the latest firmware? I have WPA-PSK working fine at home on
an AP-600G w/ Proxim a/b/g ComboCard. With the first iteration of the
firmware, I couldn't even get WEP working. Had to wait for something newer.
(This was about six months ago at least)

Firmware upgrade is described in manual
Just install the TFTP server download latest firmware and
upgrade from config page ....

Hmmmm....must have missed it. I know I looked. DO you have printed manual,
or were you using the PDF provided on the CD? I only hav the one on the CD.
Guess I should print it out (for some reason it's easier for me to read
printed manuals, then trying to read stuff on screen).

Actually it wasn't quite that simple. We ended up having to resert the AP
and start from scratch with the new firmware - not sure why,

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your reply:

WEP works fine on mine. I'm curious - (and I guess I'm still a little
confused about how WAP-PSK works) do you just enter the passphrase? The
instructions say this:

Do ONE of the following:
-Enter 64 hex digits or 32 ASCII characters in the Pre-Shared Key field
-Enter a phrase in the PSK Pass Phrase field. The AP will automatically
generate a pre-shared key based on the phrase you entered.

I am confused on this. If I enter the characters in the Pre-Shared Key
field, both boxes mask the characters. How do I know what to enter in the
client configuration "pass phrase" since the generated pass phrase is masked
on the AP????

This is really confusing me.

Thanks,

Aaron
