Orange mobile + broadband advertisment?

[I hope the crossposting is OK.]

My daughter tells me she saw a poster inside an Underground
train advertising an Orange mobile phone plan with a "free"
Blackberry Pearl, free broadband for the first 6 months, and
broadband for £5/month thereafter. She can't remember the
monthly cost of the contract.

The plan, whatever it is, presumably doesn't include an e-mail
service. My daughter believes she will be able to access her
Hotmail account using an e-mail contract with Blackberry: is
that correct? (She's been pestering me a lot about all this
recently, but so far I've been able to resist making a rash
and possibly expensive decision.)

I'm new to this stuff (i.e. both mobile phones and broadband),
which is perhaps why I can't find any reference to this offer
on the Orange website.

I'm with Orange on dial-up at the moment, and I'm somewhat
reluctant to continue with them on broadband (especially in
view of their reviews at <http://www.ispreview.co.uk/>) but
if I can really save a great deal of money I may do so, and
at least I would like to check this offer out.

[cross-posting removed, for the moment at least]

[the first part of what follows is a separate copy of the
reply I've already posted to uk.telecom.mobile]

Do you mind saying why not, since the post was on-topic
for both newsgroups?

That is for a different newsgroup! Whereas here:
<http://www.usenet.org.uk/uk.telecom.mobile.html>
there is no such prohibition (and it would be surprising,
to me at least, if there was).

(I have now also checked:
<http://www.usenet.org.uk/uk.telecom.broadband.html>
and there is no prohibition there, either.)

I bet she can't - although she would if she had to pay for it.

Look at the company offering the deal, it should show everything.

Well done!

It's a simple case of looking at what is on offer and how much it costs.

I think you're being lied to so you buy someone a phone.

Currently there is 6 months free blackberry service on offer (normally
about £7 quid extra per month) and the reduced-price broadband offer is
also available with £30 per month / 18 Month contracts(£5 for home
starter, £15 for home max)

Only if she uses the premium flavour of hotmail (the one you have to pay
for). Free hotmail accounts do not allow for POP3 access which is what
the blackberry depends on.

Go to an Orange shop for advice. One of the stores on Oxford Street is a
dedicated business store.
