Orange Broadband Weirdness

I am using the Speedtouch USB modem to connect to my Orange Broadband
Starter Package. No more problems that one would expect with Orange!

But I have the strangest situation, I can not see 99% of websites.
Google works, Gmail works (with new emails in inbox) and I have
downloaded a song from Limewire and with no problems. But if I try to
go into say ebay or yahoo its just hangs and times out.

I have cleared the cache, so it is not picking up anything from there.

I could understand if my connection was down that I couldn't see any
websites. But only being able to see a few is very strange.

I have contacted orange who are looking into this for me, but has
anyone else come accros this?

Many thanks

Daniel

A couple of things to try

Use the OpenDNS servers instead of Orange's own
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Check out your MTU settings
http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk/phpBB2/kitz.php
Although I am not 100% sure if that applies to people with routers only

If you get no joy from this NG, try registering with the above forum.
In fact you may have to register to read that URL

Good Luck

Assuming your USB ADSL modem connects using dial-up networking (quite usual)
this is for windows XP
right-click on "my network places" and choose "properties"
right-click on the connection that starts your adsl session
and choose properties.
open the networking tab
double-click on the tcp/ip line
select the radio button that says "use the following DNS server addresses"
enter the two addresses given and OK

Yes me too, although I was having problems where google would load, but
hardly any others would when using Orange's own allocated DNS servers

Click on TCP/IP, and leave IP address on automatic but change the
primary and secondary DNS servers to the numbers given to you earlier.
OK everything then re-boot and try it.

Not long after I was "upgraded" to their LLU kit

See if you can download DrTCP from here
http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

In the adapter settings field, select your device, try 1440 in both of
the MTU fields - this seems to work ok for me on Orange, reboot your
machine and see if that works. Not sure if you will see your modem as
an adapter as I have only ever done this on a machine with an internal
NIC, but I would have thought it would appear there

If you can't get to that URL, I could email it to you - it's only 23KB
zipped
