Is Orange Broadband As Bad As They Say ?

A friend joined Orange Starter on September 30. The modem and filters have
not arrived yet but their blurb says that he will be "up and running in
about 10 days" . This caused me to search for reviews of ISP's and I have
been shocked to see that Orange is rated very poor in many reviews. It is
likely that Orange have made BT change the telephone line to enable
broadband at this time, but the terrible criticism of their service is
causing him concern. Should he cancel his direct debit immediately ? If he
does what are the implications for him trying to have another ISP ? It is
unlikely that Orange would provide a MAC. ( We are not trying to get free
broadband connection at the exchange, we just don't want him to be tied into
a poor firm for a year. )
Any advice would be gratefully received.

What did Orange tell him the delay was due to when he contacted them?

Don't use ISP's with a minimum one-year contract - always go with
monthly - you never know what might happen.
