We have a 2003 server that is mainly a file server for our corp. headquarters
and two T1-linked locations. On that server, we are hosting an old but
necessary POS (and I don't mean Point Of Sale) database application. That
application requires opportunistic locking to be disabled, otherwise only one
user at a time can get into it. But, when it is disabled, server performance
out to the remote sites goes right into the toilet.
My idea - push a policy out to the local workstations to disable requesting
of oplocks, and enable it on the server. Only local users need to access the
database application.
So, my question is this - If a workstation is configured to not ask for an
oplock, will the server put one on the file automatically or not?
