Opinions on NDO Broadband please

I've had PlusNet and Pipex in my sights for getting a good value broadband
package, taking into account connection charges, if applicable. I get my
news service from news.individual.net so I'm really only concerned about
email and internet connectivity.

I already have an ADSL modem and will be going for a wireless router
solution in the future so I don't need another modem, free or otherwise. I
just came across this from NDO -

Free connection till 8th October and £22.99 per month paid monthly or the
equivalent of £21.39 per month if paid annually. But I'm struggling to find
opinions/reviews. Ispreview has only three comments, all glowing, but they
could be fabricated. Can anyone here offer opinions please? I'm very tempted
to pay for the full 12 months to get lowest overall cost for the year so
before I bite the bullet is there any reason not to sign up with NDO?

Pipex is £23.44 per month including connection if connected for 12 months
and PlusNet is £24.99 per month including connection and a (spare, for me)
modem. While there isn't that much to choose regarding price I would like
the best service I can get in the sub £25 p.m. price bracket.

I can't vouch for their broadband services as my area does not covert for
another month but I have been a dial-up customer of NDO (formerly
Net-Direct/Ision) since 1996!

I've occasionally opened other accounts but have always kept an ndo account
and recently switched to their unmetered dial-up service. At the end of the
day no one's perfect but they're probably very close. If you check up on
webperform you'll see that their speed and availablity is about the highest
in Britain, up in Nildram territory.

It's very reliable, always fast and if you do need support a human being
answers the phone (at standard national rate) and proves surprisingly
competent at problem resolution. If you've ever tried to deal with the
muppets at BT/NTL/freeserve etc then this last will strike a happy chord.

If there is a weak link I think that they fib about their contention ratio
but the worst this has meant for me is that, on occasions, I have to click a
few extra times to connect

I will be using them for broadband anyway

Thanks for the reply. It would be nice to hear from a few NDO broadband
users also :-)

Hello Tim

I'm an NDO broadband user - and have been for several months.

I find the service superb and great value - just wish I could have got free
setup when I joined.

My speeds on the ADSL Guide speed checker are:

Downstream 470 Kbps (58.8 KB/sec) 507 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 244 Kbps (30.5 KB/sec) 263 Kbps (inc. overheads)



Which I think is very good.

Id say go on and join them - its only £22.99 a month - cheap and it works.
