So far - for the money in the UK -the Linksys BEFW11S4 is coming out as the
best value wireless 4 port router:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...461136-0447634

..Is there though better options as was looking at the D-Link 614 but its
quite a few quid more money.

The only other option I ahve looked at is a standard 4 ports router/switch -
say a Linksys off ebay and then get a separate wiress access point that
would then allow me to upgrade the wireless part as the faster speed
wireless access points come down in prive..

Any advice appreciated.

The Linksys 11S4 is a good choice. If you're looking for it to be a FW,
it is not and neither do the other routers that fit into this class of
router. At best they have SPI (a form of a FW) -- firewall like.

A router that has a FW will be able to stop inbound and outbound traffic
by default.

You should put a host based FW solution on the machine behind the router
wired/wireless or wired only.

So what about the Linksys Wireless Router - that is supposed to have NAt
etc - is that a better option?
