Hi all,
I just need some input on which is a good web / content filtering out there.
It could be a proxy based or a sniffer based.
Thanks,
Al

Using Squid + SquidGuard in a local school. Works fine.

Besides squid ( http://www.squid-cache.org/ ) as your web proxy you
might want to look at DansGuardian ( http://dansguardian.org/ ) for
web content filtering under constant development and maintainence

http://www.smoothwall.net/products/corporateguardian/ combines squid and dansguardian and comes with web based full control - not that expensive

Tell us more - email me. I'm curious about putting Linux in schools. My wife
(2nd grade) has never had great support and Windows (98 or Me) is always
being broken. I'd almost rather go to her principal and propose a Linux
install, at least I could secure things.

Second this. I was using squid + squidguard, switched to
squid+dansguardian. Add Webmin for administration of the whole thing and
you've got yourself a nice filter set that is easy to keep up to date.

Third this squid+dansguardian work pretty well and scale pretty
good, just be sure to have enough RAM and fast disks (SCSI 15K)
for squids cache.
