Oops!

Made a small mistake today.

Went to PC World and bought a Belkin F5D7230UK4 Wireless Router. Having
done my research on the subtle stuff, spec of the firewall etc, I
overlooked possibly the single most important factor:

It doesn't accept RJ11 straight from the wall like my old Speedtouch
Router did. It will only accept Ethernet from a modem. While I have an
Intel Anypoint DSL modem which still works, it's USB only.

Is there a converter that will allow me to feed the Anypoint DSL (USB-B
recepticle) into the Belkin (RJ45)?

Nope, you'll need a PC to get the modem to work first (well there was
a router which you could plug a USB modem but it was very expensive
compared to the normal ones)..

Now's the time to pack it all back up & take it back

A while back, in my old setup, I was stuck in a similar situation.
I ended up buying a Binatone ADSL modem/router from Argos of all places as
at the time it was the only one I could find that had rj45 and USB
connectors.

They still sell it, and although I don't use it now, it was a pretty good
piece of kit and will plug straight into your router via rj45 connector.

You are better off returning it and buying a different model which includes
an integrated ADSL modem as well.

Several manufacturers are due to release their 54G ADSL wireless routers
(their "All in One" models with integrated ADSL modem) in the next month or
so.

If you wanted to stick to Belkin it would be model F5D7630uk4A you would be
looking for once its released.

A further option is to replace your ADSL modem with a unit with
RJ45 Ethernet connection, e.g. Netgear DM602, but they're not very
good VFM.

nope, take it back and get an *ADSL* wireless router. solwise have one for
under a ton that's based on the conexant chipset that's cheap and
cheerful...

A mate of mine is having all sorts of MSN Messenger issues with a 602.
