I have Windows 2003 Small Business Server. I am using my Small business
server to do my NATing and it is also my VPN server, file server, DHCP
server, DNS Server, WINS server and other application servers.
Here is my problem, I can log onto my server using VPN successfully, but for
some reason, when i type in the NETBIOS names such as \\server it does not
work. But when I type in the actually ip address it works. Why is that.
Also in Remote Desktop i have the same issue. I can't use the Computer Name
to logg on anymore, i have to use IP addres.
When i am physically there, I can use the computer name in Remote Desktop
and it works. Same with the UNC. I can't use the name of the computer to log
on to the PC via remote desktop. even looking at shared folders on the server
or any other PC I have to use an IP address. then the shared folder. I have
to use the private lan IP address then the shared name. Please tell me why I
have to use IP address instead of using netbios names when I am logged on
using the VPN.
