Have you tried different channels (1, 6, 11)?

HI there

I will give that a try, so I take it the channel in the admin section of the
netgear should be the same as the channel in the nic.

Don't mess with the wireless adapter (client) -- it automatically
selects whatever channel is set in the wireless access point/router.

Half the speed, compared to what?
Do you have a wired PC connected via the same router?
Can you connect your laptop via wire to the same router?

What speed are you getting, and how are you measuring it?

My Netgear WGR614v4 and Laptop WG511 are capable of 1MBpS on my cable
modem.

Which half do you see?

Ok, so we can assume that you're getting 4Mbits/sec when directly
connected to the router with a CAT5 ethernet cable. Is that correct?

>Is there anything I can do to get a better speed.

Probably, but it takes two to tango. What's on the other end of your
wireless link, how do you have it setup, have you checked for
interference, and how are you measuring the thruput?

Sure, but that won't throttle the Internet speed unless the wireless is
dog slow. Even a good "b" connection can be fast enough to max out
4 Mbps broadband.

WAN. The broadband connection has no effect on the LAN wireless.
That is seperate.

If the wireless is connecting at, say 36, then half of that is way
more then 2Mbps. He would have to be stuck with a 6Mbps or less
wireless connection (quite low for same room) to have it become a
bottleneck.
