An ongoing networking problem

Win98se seems to be problematic when it comes to networking, sometimes
it does and then it doesn't. If someone could answer this question
please.

Deleting tcp/ip from networks and then re-installing asks for the disk
and reloads whatever it wants and reboots. Then I check to file share
and printer share and it reboots. I check the settings in network and
all appears to be correct and is using the default settings, which work
well on my other computer.

Is there anything else I need to do? I see under tools, "map network
drive" and "synchronize" etc and wonder if there's something I'm
forgetting...

I have on my other computers selected files that I share and all appear
to share them correctly except for this one computer. Is there anything
in the d-link router that could be effecting file sharing?

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Win98 doesn't know how to host shares for "just files". At best, you have to
share folders, at worst, you have to share an entire partition...

Ouch, did I say file ......In the heat.... sorry, I meant folders
as i menioned, my other win98se computer works fine with these folder
settings...

I wonder if someone could comment on my overall question here, I hate
to be so wordy but I'm sure its something that many have done and could
assist with this.

Deleting and re-installing newtorks, is there anything else I should be
doing?

Thanks......

I think the main things to look at are that "Browse Master" (in the
"File and Print Sharing" "Properties") is set to "Automatic" and that
in the TCP/IP "Properties" you have the WINS settings appropriate for
your network configuration. If you're using DHCP for WINS resolution,
and if your D-link router is also your DHCP server, then it could
indeed be involved.

Also make sure you have the appropriate patches installed.
