Well, it is not just tonight. Their broadband POP (incoming) server
has not been working consistently for 10 days or more. When the server
address they specify pop.onetel.net has not worked I have tried
changing it to mail.onetel.net.uk. That was my idea, not theirs. It
worked for the last 10 days. Now it doesn't. Their "support" page on
their website does not vary. It says the broadband mail server is
active and responding, which is not so. They provide a phone number
0800.9570564 with a recorded message which is "updated hourly". The
message almost never changes; it is that they know some customers have
an issue with broadband email and they are working towards a speedy
resolution of it. Speedy! -10 days! At least they are now apologising
in that recorded phone message.
If you speak by phone to a live tech person (having waited for ages to
get through) the message is the same. I have also emailed various
addresses in the company - they don't reply

There were Onetel broadband mail outages earlier this year, too.

So what's the answer - refer to Ofcom? or Which? or a TV consumer
show? Write to Charles Dunstone head of Onetel's new owners - Carphone
Warehouse? Or just walk away? They are a disgrace to the industry.

Well at least they admit there is a problem, that is the first step, unlike
others who keep you hanging on a premium rate help line (which in itself is
dubious practice, ref OFCOM) & when they do answer they make you jump thru
hoops & then state that they do not support x,y,z email program (input any &
every package) & they have the balls to say there is nothing wrong with
their service...

The answer (if the costs pan out) is to get yourself a hosting service & use
that, the other up side of this is if & when you change service providers
your email address doesn't change, you just forward to the new ISP (if you
bother doing that).

You could try as an alternative:

mail.onetel.com
