Well, I never got a reply to my posts but from reading others I kept trying
suggestions. This afternoon I decided to turn everything off at the same
time: router, all computers, then started them back one at a time and voila,
it works. It never occurred to me to do that. I knew it was something to
do with network naming and IP configuration, so it makes sense.
So the forum is a good use just for brainstorming. Thanks.
