Or, better yet, ping its IP address directly? Sometimes DNS servers stop responding which makes it appear that the machine cannot access the Internet (because it can't resolve any host names.) You should also verify it's using the correct default gateway.

I have a 4-pc network. We use Bellsouth DSL and a Linksys 8 port
router. All pc's are attached to the router as well as a network
printer.
We have one computer that serves as the file server. This computer has
been losing internet access on an intermittent basis. It will work ok
for a while, but then lose internet. It can still access the network,
the printer and the router config - just not the internet.
All other pc's are able to get on the internet and still access files
on this file server.
Resetting the modem and router fixes the problem every time (rebooting
does not).
I am going crazy trying to figure out the issue.
some other info :
We recently changed the computer name on this computer.
This computer runs Norton Antivirus 2006. We have uninstalled it and
re-installed thinking it was the problem. I have turned off windows
firewall.
We recently replaced the Linksys router as the old one was dropping all
computers from the network from time to time.
any ideas?
