Is there any way and/or portable device to improve reception with a laptop
that has build in wireless other than the following ideas; a removable
wireless card with adapter to add an antenna or adding a USB
wireless/antenna combo. The goal is to use present equipment in order to
connect to various wireless networks/hotspots while on the go.

I'm just wondering if such a device exists since most new laptops are coming
with built in wireless. I'm thinking of maybe a USB type connection to a
portable antenna. Although I'm not sure how you would configure such a
device with the onboard wireless.

TIA, I'll be checking the board.

Disassemble the laptop and solder an external SMA connector to the mini-PCI
WiFi card

How about just disabling the onboard wireless and use a USB nic with an
external antenna?

David.
