hi all,

I've had this working, but had to rebuild my linux box and now can't
find the nuget of info that gets it working again.

internet Y.Y.Y.56 address -
mydname.demon.co.uk
|
< ADSL Modem > ---> NAT setup to 10.0.0.1
| 10.0.0.138
|
| 10.0.0.1
-----------------
| linksys router | forwarding to
192.168.1.200
| BEFW11S4 | port 23 and 80
------------------
|192.168.1.1 |
| |
\|/ - - - - /|\ ---------[ linux box
192.168.1.200 ]
| wireless lan redhat 9
shrike
[laptop 192.168.1.203]
XP - pro
With the above setup .... I can telnet using ip address 192.X.X.X
between laptop
and linux box. I can http://10.0.0.1 from and it shows web pages
being serviced by linux.
What I can't do is use the http:/mydname.demon.co.uk or telnet
mydname.

My laptop has its own firewall and if I change the forward to
192.168.1.203 then I get a warning that someone is telneting from
10.0.0.1 when I try to connect from any of the machines to
mydname.demon.co.uk

Anybody help. I had originally not changed anything except the linux
box, but may have alterred afew bits on the way to writting this note.

regards

John

It appears to me that with the double NATing going on here you will never be
able to successfully forward ports through. Can you stop the modem from
NATing so that your router actually gets the external IP? If not, you may
have to use your Linksys as a hub instead of a router. Does the modem also
act as a DHCP server?

Thanks A1,

Found that I can see the web server from the outside, the outside
world can see what is being shown at 10.0.0.1. I just can't go from
the laptop to the web server using my external address. May be the
only way round is to hard code my mydoman.demon.com address as
10.0.0.1 on my laptops host file or the internal address 200 address.

There is no DCHP running anywhere, I have given everything fixed
address. My modem has got DNS enabled, but I have tried this both
ways, although not sure if you need to cycle the power on it to get to
truely use the settings you have changed.

Now moved on to a problem with running Oracle 9i R2 Apache on Linux
Red Hat (Shrike) and the mod_pls module returning HTTP-503 with
ORA-604 .... a problem for another forum I feel :-(

Regards

John
