Both the Sony TR1A and the Panasonic W2 have 802.11b wireless built in. Is
it possible to use a PC Card with either of these machines to be able to
connect at the higher 802.11g speed? That is, does the built in wireless
preclude the use of a wireless card in the PC Card slot?

No, it does not. You can use the internal card, or stick in a PCMCIA card.
If you REALLY want to be slick about it, you can remove the cover over the
MiniPCI slot, and replace the internal wireless card with a 11g model. It is
no more difficult than upgrading the RAM in a laptop. Then you have all the
advantages of the internal card, plus the speed of 11g.

In replacing the internal card, are you talking about the TR1A or the W2? I
have checked both and don't see a miniPCI slot mentioned.

standard)

I made a decision and bought the TR1. Can you talk me through the upgrade?
Or point me to a website or something?

This is for a Compaq tablet, but same idea. You might have different covers
on the bottom. There should be no need to pull apart the whole laptop, just
a small 4"x4" cover on the bottom
