Okay, I am officially confused?

TIA

Because I am having trouble with access to my wireless in the far reaches of
the house, I purchased an Access Point (D-Link DWL-2000AP). I programmed
the device to operate in "Access Point" mode and gave it the correct Gateway
with no DHCP. The remote computer sees it but can NOT acquire an address.
If I connect it to a wire, it works fine. Maybe I am mistaken but I thought
that the AP would pick up the signal from the wireless router and relay it
to the computer.

Again thanks,

Dave H.

That would be a repeater.
What you have is a wireless router, which is a combination of a wired
router and a built in AP, and then the DWL-2000AP, configured as another
AP, that needs to be wired to something.

There are several possibilities.
You could just add a reflector to your original router and see if that
gives you enough signal boost to work without the second device.

The DWL-2000AP has other modes. Some might only operate nicely with
another DLink product. I'm not sure. You didn't say what router you had.

1- repeater, which is what you intended.
2- wire to the 2000, and have it as a second AP, which is what you have.
3- wireless from the first router to the 2000 in client mode, and then wire
directly to a remote PC.
4- point to point bridge, if you had some other wired devices in the remote
location.
