The Cable broadband provider...improved its speed by 4.6 per cent over the
past month. Virgin Media customer's enjoyed an average of 52.1 per cent of
their advertised top speed last month.

Well, it's as "official" as that last 'official - vm worst ISP' that a
certain someone posted a while back!

You're missing the important point.
This is for the 2 and 4Mb connections which nobody have problems with.
It's the 20Mb that a lot of people are.

***XL customers who have a top advertised speed of 20Mb actually
received an average of only 7.6Mb - for which they pay £37 a month.***

They're getting just *37%* percent of what they're paying for.
That is very poor, if I was only gettin 37% I wud be on around 5Mb, but
I'm not, I'm on 14Mb.

It brings us back to that point again of Cable v ADSL, and no loss in
speed cuz of *copper wire* *distance to exchange* etc...
What factors are preventin people payin for the 20Mb, gettin only 7.6Mb
of it?
I'll tell you what they are, they are unable to supply due to over
subscribed, over sold product.

Beets me how they can brag about these figures they should be closed
down and the company directors hung out to dry before slinging them in
jail for a good number of years .
I shall be leaving them shortly and this time I will not be coming
back ever .

Wow so I should be getting about half the speed I'm paying for - good job
petrol stations don't adopt the same policies.!

I have had a lot of problems recently with VM I have the 20mb connection,
well, when I say I have it, I mean I pay for 20mb!

I recently carried out 4 simultaneous downloads - as VM support suggested -
got a total download speed from those at 1.26mbps - I was told that is a
speed I should expect.....needless to say I'm now looking around because

I am also paying £37 per month. I just notice www.bethere.co.uk offer up to
24mbps for £22. I've see some good reveues about O2 - who own bethere.

They call that 'enjoyed'??? When I was with VM I was getting 7-8Mb on
their 20Mb service when, from their advertising spin, I should really be
getting 20Mb; on the 10Mb service I always got 9.7Mb. So I got a
decrease in service for the same price, lovely. Plus the whole
throttling thing. Hardly 'enjoyment'...

With BE, once you've established the speed your line is capable of,
you'll mostly always get that speed.
With Virgin Media, once you've established the speed you want to pay
for, you'll mostly always get half of that speed.

That aint right... that isn't sposed to be how Cable works, I hear you
say...
Well, Carl has provided a link to prove that it is just that, and that
it's official too! )

I would consider 1.26 Mbps downloads on a 20 Mbps connection fraud quite
frankly. You should ask them to reduce the price to that of the 2Mbps service.

Why do you continue to pay them £37 ? You can pay additional BT line rental AND
get a better service for less than that in total.
