The UK government took over 22 billion pounds when selling off
licences to operate 3G. We propose that now is the time for the
government to invest some of that money in providing free WiFi access
in ALL towns & cities across the UK. The digital age is here.
Communication is vital. This country needs this infrastructure to be
readily available to all free of charge. This action will future proof
all aspects of business within the UK.

Please sign our official e-petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/FreeAccessWiFi/
and forward to all your friends.
(It only takes 30 seconds)

Thanks,

Paul.

While they're at it free fuel would help our haulage comapnies.....lol
i would much rather the money went to schools/hospitals. free internet
access would be very nice, but this is the real world and i accept i have to
pay for services that i use either directly or via taxation. if people want
to connect on the move, then this can be done via the mobile phone networks
quite effectively unless you're after downloading large chunks of data. also
how many jobs would ber lost as ISPs closed down due to lack of
subscription? given a choice of free access vs £20-30 month which would you
chose?

Surely a lot simpler to ask people to share their WiFi instead of signing a
petition? 1.8 million working hotspots for free would surely be better than
another massive government controlled IT project? Might save a few billion
and be ready for the London 2022 Olympics.

You could have got a free AP from FON.com as a starter ...

the internet I don't mind paying!

Free WiFi is being provided or planned in number of US Cities and there are
plans for 8 UK Cities.
Some are being paid for by local authorities and some are commercial which
will presumably involve some advertising.
Regards,
Martin
