Hi All
I'm hoping that someone may have seen something like this - searches so far
have not dug up anything, particularly not on MS sites. It seems to be a
combination of various issues but focussed on the server 2003.
We have a newly installed Server 2003 R2 on new hardware (dual Xeon 3GHz,
high-speed SCSI drives) used for terminal services, an old WinNT4 server
being phased out, and a few recent desktops running XP Pro. The desktops have
been joined to the server 2003 domain (TRINITY) and also to the NT4 domain
(TRINITY_NT). The server 2003 has a one-way trust relationship towards the
NT4 server. We have gigabit ethernet between machines.
Everything is fine when desktops are logged in to the NT4 domain and saving
to the NT4 shares.
When the desktops are logged on to the 2003 domain, saving a document to any
share (whether the 2003 shares or the NT shares) from Word 2003 is very slow,
ie 45 seconds, and seriously frustrating our users.
This problem is ONLY when saving from Word 2003, not opening or printing. It
is a problem ONLY with Word 2003. No other applications in Office or out show
any problem. The Performance tool shows no particular disk or network
activity while we are waiting and the CPUs are practically idle. The logs
show no particular error messages (except that we have insufficient licences,
which is manifestly untrue, but we are used to that from the NT4 days).
Any guidance towards tracking this down would be very welcome.
cheers, Ken
