Odd IE Problem

Really scratching my head over this one.

Inside my network behind a PIX firewall, users trying to go to any website
just times out. Hit refresh and the page quickly displays. DNS seems to be
working fine. I can ping a site and it immediately resolves. NSLookup is
quick to resolve. Tracert is quick to the firewall. Set the browser to low
security, accept all cookies, clicked on allow popups. No help. I just
don't know what to look at next. Is there a tool out there to help track
down slow internet problems?

Fred

Could be likely the DNS is not working fine.

The DNS scheme should be like this,...and there really aren't many
exceptions....

Every machine on the LAN must use the AD/DNS and that only.
In the config of the AD/DNS add the ISP's DNS to the Forwarders List
Make sure the firewall device allows the AD/DNS machine to make outbound DNS
queries.

Even if this does not solve the problem,..it needs to be like this
anyway,...it will eliminate this as a contributing factor,...and, well,..it
is just simply supposed to be that way anyway.

Hi Fred,

Does it fix the problem if you disable caching and/or clear the cache?

IE7
------
Tools -> Internet Options -> Browsing History -> Settings -> Check for newer
versions of stored pages: Every time I visit the webpage

IE6
------
Tools -> Internet Options -> Temporary Internet Files -> Settings -> Check
for newer versions of stored pages: Every visit to the page

Also check the size of your cache. Huge caches (>1GB) can be difficult for
IE to manage.

Here are a couple articles that might help:
