Hit a problem today.
Aol silver broadband on one pc, via the btvoyager (105) modem.
The drivers that come with aol are ppoe based.
Aol authenticates no problem, internet usage good, sync is reliable, no
unusual dropping.

Customer wishes to share broadband.
Have experieince sharing AOL broadband, i know it can be fussier then
regular broadband. On previous installation used the 3com officeconnect
router with the 1.7 firmware, no problem.

Installed router, put in the username (E-Mail Removed) all lower case, and
password xxxxxxx all lower case. PPOA, 1400 mtu 0/38 vpi/vci with vcmux
encapsulation.

The router would sync ok, but would not connect, created a new username on
aol, making sure it had no caps or child safety controls, but no joy.

Just to check that everything was ok, i installed the ppoa voyager 105
drivers, which the none aol isps use, then tried to connect, it would not
get past verifying username and password, even with the bt_user test login.

A standard ppoa dial up should have been possible, but wasnt, but aol works
fine on the ppoe.

The router log claimed that chap authentication failed, with ppp errors
etc........

Anyone any idea????

Gaz

Hi,

AOL use PPPoE and PPPoA.

Check the BT Voyager 105 Drivers and see which are install and use the
appropreate settings on the router.

All checked, the router works on aol (checked that specific router on
another aol broadband account, no issues).
In regards to the 105. The 105 was installed on computer a with the aol
drivers (ppoe) works fine, the 105 was then installed in computer b, with
the downloaded drivers from the bt website (ppoa), and the line would sync,
but not allow a login, even with the bt test login.

noise on line about 63db.

Anyone think of a reason why it will allow ppoe login and not ppoa?
