Sorry, this is slightly off-topic, but I imagined a lot of readers of
this n.g. might have had some experience with this. I've been using
freeserve for hosting my web files. As I'm on bt broadband now, I can't
ftp to them without old-fashioned dial-up. So, I'm looking for
recommendations for a cheap, but ad free, service, preferably UK based-
which I can just ftp to. 50 MB for files is probably the max, and it's
pretty low traffic.

I'm with Architec (http://www.architec.co.uk)

I pay 30 quid a year for 100Mb (or is it 200Mb?) of space with a couple of
gig bandwidth a month.

I've got my own domain (registered via Architec) for 9 quid for 2 years.

I get web, mail (incoming and outgoing), webmail, and no adverts for that
price.

I'm getting BB myself early November (I hope!), but because I've got my
own domain & hosting, my mail & web will remain as they are, and it's just
my method of connecting that's changed.

You're welcome

www.web-mania.com (no link with us) have a very good reputation and get
most of their new customers from recommendations in various forums (from
what I can work out, anyway). At £20 pa it shouldn't break the bank,
either.

Some hosts will get grumpy about MP3s - even if you own the copyright (I
see you're a musician...)

If you see an offer that's too good to be true - and you almost certainly
will - it almost certainly is...

Happy host-hunting :-)

Alex.

Have a look at www.34sp.com . I use them and can recommend them. GBP
15 pa for 30MB and 1GB per month. If you exceed 1 GB they just add up
the excess until it reaches 1GB then charge you 1.50.

Malcolm

P.S. if you do sign up and enter fullcircuit as referrer I get a few
pennies :-)
