I notice the same in my own logs, such as during bootup:
Dec 30 17:14:05 green ntpd[824]: time reset -2.386063 s
Dec 30 17:14:05 green ntpd[824]: synchronisation lost
It seems to be normal behavior for a reset greater than 0.128 s, or, if I read
the below-mentioned newsgroup posting correctly, for when ntp is sync'ed to a
single server and the connection is lost.
