NTL stuck in SYN_SENT

Hi,

This is a friends setup, I don't think it has ever worked since it was
setup (does NTL test broadband when they install). Any TCP connection is
getting stuck in SYN_SENT state), DNS resolves okay. I've tried with and
without a router, different laptops and the power off for 30 seconds. Any
ideas?

If it's never worked, has your friend even registered?

Below are some instructions I wrote a year ago when I worked for NTL:-

If you experience difficulties running the Broadband Installer CD, but have
installed the USB drivers or are using Ethernet to connect your computer to
the Cable Modem, reboot the modem by removing the power cord.

1.. Power the Modem up & make sure it's connected to the PC

2.. Power on the PC

3.. Open Internet Explorer & enter https://80.5.178.26 or
http://80.5.178.26 in the address bar & accept the warning (if any)
regarding a secure site.

4.. To complete registration, you will need your PIN number - if you've
not received your welcome letter, ring customer services on
0800 052 2000

5.. All Stand Alone Cable Modems have the same serial # which is
ntl ct8 cj486 - you will need this during registration.

6.. If you're trying any of the above with a Router connected between the
modem & PC - IT WON'T WORK - to complete registration, one PC must be
connected directly to the Cable Modem.

No idea, I guess she assumed that when NTL came and installed
TV/Phone/Broadband then it would work - so probably not.

I'll give your instructions a go, thanks.

That's a common assumption, unfortunately. At least it was a year ago.

Don't bother with the CD at all (unless you absolutely need to install USB
drivers)
