Maybe - NTL online upgrades tell me none of my accounts are registered
to my cable modem. So I'm just waiting for my upgrade to happen
automatically (by the end of May according to the letter).

Perhaps! The NTL website implies that the 300K service may *NOT* automatically
get upgraded to 1Mb (as this also imposes a capacity cap) - but that the
higher speeds WILL.

Sorry, should have said I'm on the 750 service, jumping to 2Mb.

BTW, does anyone know how much NTL would charge me to shift the cable
modem to another room in the house? I don't have the tool to remove the
cable from the back of the modem, and don't particularly want to run a
long ethernet cable through the house.

If your NTL cable connection is the same as my NTL cable connection
the 'tool' is a small adjustable spanner, some pliers or if you are
lucky your fingers (it just unscrews)?

All the best ..
