The Sunday Times has the story, NTL to merge with Virgin,
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspap...903898,00.html. Does this
mean we will get NTL style customer disservice on our mobile telephones now?

I can't see the point of this triple or quad play business, there is such a
thing as having all your eggs in one basket.

The article cited is very unclear as to who is expected to do what
to whom e.g.

"SIR Richard Branson is to combine Virgin’s mobile phone business
with NTL..."

....

"It was not clear last night whether NTL intends to make a cash
offer for Virgin Mobile..."

Any company that gets into bed with Branson, soon learns to regret it.
Branson is prolly after cash to prop up his other ailing businesses.

That's been the standard response to Branson for as long as I can
remember and yet curiously he and Virgin are still here and apparently
doing well (unless you read the Sunday Times)

That just says that when the franchise comes up for renewal they are
going to restructure the franchise.

What of it? Its now flying to 6 destinations from Lagos

Heard of Virgin Atlantic - consistently voted the best longhaul carrier
- or Virgin Blue which now has around 30% of the Australian domestic market?

They lost the franchise.

Good. Best place for Branson is the other side of the world.

He's a fucking crook. He should have gone to prison when he was 21,
when he fiddled the taxman out of £50k - others would have. Lucky for
him, his family have good connections.

No they didn't. It comes up for rebid in 2007 when it will be
restructured and Virgin will be rebiding. They only "lose it" in the
sense that Crosscountry in its present form will end then but it will be
replaced by another franchise Virgin have said they will be bidding for.
