NTL email changes

For some months I've been receiving email from NTL suggesting I
change my email settings, as the method I'm using isn't going
to be supported.

Problem is, I'm already doing what they say (pop collection
from pop.ntl.com) and not using a hardcoded IP address.

So why do they think I need to change it ? Anyone know what
they're actually going to do : is it something that will break
my use of fetchmail ?

Questions to NTL's technical support, of course, go unanswered,
and the online help is only for Outlook users.

They are going to move the servers to a different IP so people with hardcode IPs
will find they are no longer there, DNS should sort out people with pop.ntl.com
entered as there server but the e-mails don't inspire confidence in them. Do you
have a 2nd mail account with someone else? I've been getting the same e-mails
saying I'm using a hard coded IP when I'm not (not in my hosts file for that
matter) so the only thing I can think of is they are seeing port 110 activity
that isn't going to there server.

Are you sure you're using the correct address? For ntl broadband
my collection address has always been (for 3 years or so)
pop.ntlworld.com. They don't send me any messages.

Shouldn't it be pop.ntlworld.com?

I.

I've ignored them for quite a while but they mention changing it by
the 15th August, so it might be due to break on Monday ..

Yes, that's what I'm using (not pop.ntl.com as I originally wrote).

I'm in Bedford too, so presumably using the same proxies, UBRs etc.
as you.

Yes, it should, but it was just the posting that had the error -
my mail config does use pop.ntlworld.com.

Yes, that was what I was thinking. But I don't understand why they think I've
got a problem - especially as another responder in the same area has had
no such warnings. I don't use NTL's DNS (as it always used to be unreliable)
but I have checked that it gives the same answer for pop.ntlworld.com as
all the others (and it does).

I suppose I'll just have to wait until Monday and see if it breaks ..

No, I've given up on their newsserver but although I get most of my
mail through non-NTL addresses, it all ends up in their mailboxes and
is collected from there. Outgoing mail also goes through their SMTP
server as a smart host.
